The Bell and The Orchid - public sculpture trail for the London Borough of Hounslow 2025
CPP Hounslow is excited to announce The Bell and The Orchid, a new commission by artist Hannah Lim. A series of new tiles, that can be found in shops along the High Street, reflect upon the history, stories and cultures of Hounslow High Street, as well as Hannah’s experiences as an artist who grew up in the borough.
As a person of mixed Singaporean and British heritage, Hannah Lim’s work engages with the colonial connotations of the relationship between the East and the West. Working across ceramics, illustration and design, her work often references British and Chinese mythology.
From November 2024 to Jan 2025, a group of local 'story collectors' interviewed shop keepers on Hounslow High Street to highlight its independent businesses and the communities that use them. In response, Hannah has created a series of works that single out particular symbols and motifs. These include the griffin, a prominent feature of Hounslow’s crest, and the orchid, a symbol of resilience that features regularly in Hannah’s work.
